We bow in worship every morning when we wake up…
For me, sometimes it is to the Lord, giving him my day. Asking that he is with me in every conversation, every moment, and every decision, and that I live my life according to his purpose for me… but MOST of the time it is to the world. To the idol inside my phone… My social media, texts, schedule, emails. Often it feels noble and responsible to wake up and check my calendar and make sure I am prepared for the work day, but it’s sending a very strong message to my mind and heart on what in this life Really matters and what to subconsciously and consciously put my energy into. The conscious energy is easier to shift around but we know from experience that the subconscious energy is much harder to control once we have pointed it in a given direction… So now there’s this muscle memory to click into “the world” once shutting off the alarm, vs setting our phones down and being present in the space we are in First, and making Those things, people, thoughts, ideas the priority before anything else.
To me, the things that Really matter are knowing that I am responding in kindness and selflessness towards my partner and his needs, thoughts, and cares… Setting an example, caring for, and loving on the new children God has brought into my life and remembering that they had an equally as important day and may need someone to digest things through… Showing up for the people who work for me and showing them that our relationship is much deeper than the to do lists and tasks on our plate… being a part of the lives of my family and showing them that I treasure them and care about what they are up to. Garrett, my incredible other half, is the king of really showing up for people in a deep way, daily, and I strive to be that centered with my purpose.
We often put SO much weight, time, and effort into the things in this life that don’t fill our cup, but wish to be a big part of filling others cups. Work, social media, emails will take from your cup. Spending time with the Lord, first and foremost, and showing up for the people around you in a deeper way than surface level is what fills your cup enough to fill others.
Be cautious of what you worship first thing in the morning because That is what your efforts will afford you. The GOATs of this world are the people who wake up and set their sights on the mission daily, and focus in on what’s important, despite the chaos and noise around them. Best part is, you get to choose EVERY. DAY what matters the most…
Your choice… Make it count!
